Core responsibilities for bar staff:
 

  1. Preparing and serving drinks: One of the primary responsibilities of working on a bar is to prepare and serve a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, spirits, cocktails, and soft drinks. 

  2. Maintaining a clean and organised workspace: It is important to maintain a clean and hygienic work environment at all times, including wiping down counters and equipment, washing equipment, and disposing of any waste or recycling. As well as keeping the workspace clean and hygienic, bar staff may also be responsible for general maintenance and upkeep, such as restocking supplies, changing kegs or tap lines, and replacing any broken or damaged equipment.

  3. Interacting with customers: Bartenders and bar staff are often the main point of contact for customers, so it is important to provide friendly and efficient service, answering questions, taking orders, and providing recommendations when necessary.

  4. Handling cash and credit transactions: Working on a bar also involves handling money, including processing cash and credit card payments, tracking tips.

  5. Enforcing laws and regulations: Bartenders and other bar staff may also be responsible for enforcing laws and regulations related to alcohol consumption, such as checking IDs, monitoring customers for signs of intoxication, and cutting off service when necessary.

  6. Cleaning and maintenance: As well as keeping the workspace clean and hygienic, bar staff may also be responsible for general maintenance and upkeep, such as restocking supplies, changing kegs or tap lines, and replacing any broken or damaged equipment.
